Printmaking Classes
Eleanor has recently started offering her years of experience in etching techniques to regular small classes in copper plate etching and printing (Intaglio technique), at both beginner and advanced levels.

This technique follows the original process of selectively corroding a zinc or copper plate with acid. The plate is covered with a wax based substance, and the design is hand drawn or transferred into the wax with a sharp pointed instrument, exposing the metal which will then be corroded by the acid.

The depth of incision, strength of acid, and acid exposure time, produce a range of effects on the plate. The artist selectively inks the plate, and uses a hand operated press to produce a limited number of original prints

Please note that some drawing skills are required, and classes are provided on a tuition plus materials basis. Eleanor would be pleased to speak with you in more detail what is involved, including class times and costs - please refer to the contact page for Eleanor's contact details.
