Some of the more well known Australian native birds rendered in etchings, paintings and sculpture. Many of the scenes flow naturally from the experience of simply looking up into the canopy, and the paintings and etchings aim to capture both the bird and his natural surroundings, encompassed in a particular light. The 'Palm Cockatoo' captures some of the dramatic beauty of this endangered species, using open bite, aquatint and etching technique on this striking etching. The magpie is well represented in both etchings and paintings, with 'The Magpie', a work in oil and gold leaf on lined panel, capturing the silent magpie at rest in the golden light of the evening. Recent additions to this display include Spirit of Magpie and The Old Icon Magpie etchings. |
