This etching gallery covers a wide range of themes and techniques, you may also find it convenient to view one of the theme based galleries accessed from the main gallery index page.
Some of the highlights are noted above each selection.
The 'Southern Boobook', one of the more popular Australian owls, began with an original sketch in the chinese brush technique transferred onto copper plate using broad brush marks and sugar lift, then etching in the detail.
'Ascending angel' is one of those delightful works that arose in an atmosphere of ease and simplicity, realized with a gentle aquatint technique, it is also one of the earliest etchings to incorporate gold leaf applied after printing.

'Song of the Magpie' is a popular, almost iconic rendition of the Australian magpie in a eucalypt.
'Forest Window' highlights the cathedral like shapes that seem to recur in the Australian busb.
The embossed outline of the wave created by the plate profile in 'Dashed Ashore' maintains a simple clarity in the final print.

'Sun Flowers for Vincent' pays hommage to Vincent Van Gogh, and is available in several colours. A lightly bitten plate achieves the aged effect in 'The Old Apple Orchard' a work which is one of a pair. Refer to the Forest theme gallery for partners to both these etchings.

Many of the etchings utilize the élé poupé technique where the colour is applied to the plate at the time of printing. However, in some cases hand colouring is applied after the printing, for particular effects such as those displayed in the 'Dawn Lyrebird'.
